I was just thinking about ...
“Oh,
that was nasty.” The gruesome look on my face showed that I was in distress.
Thank goodness no one was around to see it. I had just had a handful of Cinnamon
Life Cereal as a mid-afternoon snack. You know how it is after you’ve eaten
something like that; you get to enjoy it later as little chunks get dislodged
from your teeth and the flavor comes alive again. No, that’s not the part
that’s disgusting, although I’ll bet some of you think so.
Anyway,
that’s what happened to me. The only problem was, it wasn’t the Cereal, with
that wonderful cinnamony taste that came loose. It was from the package of Lime
flavored Lay potato chips I had tried earlier. The flavor wasn’t horrible,
it’s just that Lime and potato chip don’t go together in my book. And now
those two were added to the handful of Cinnamon Life Cereal. And that WAS
disgusting. I found wastebasket nearby and quickly got rid of the problem. But
the taste stayed with me for a while. At least until I could rinse my mouth out.
All
of this made me think of past events and how they can come back to haunt us. And
leave an even worse taste in our mouths for years to come. Now I wouldn’t say
I was ever a bad person. But there are some things from my past that I’m
certainly not proud of. Every once in a while, bits and pieces from those times
come floating to the surface. I find myself getting rid of those things once
again. Each time, I’m thankful that God has forgiven me, even me, of all those
things I’ve done.
“But,”
you say, “I gave my life to Christ, why do those things still come back to bug
me?” Just because God has forgiven you, the past has not been changed. There
will still be consequences of past choices, poor or good. Every once in a while,
a tidbit will come up; don’t sweat it. You’re still forgiven. And if this is
not the case for you, it may be for someone you know. So if something they gave
up to God comes back to haunt them, don’t hold it against them. There is
nothing they could do to prevent it. Well, not now anyway. Hey, gotta run.
